Following the War of 1812, many changes had been made to our once very agricultural nation to turn it towards industrializing. From the many inventions such as the cotton gin, steam and water power, and lock stitch sewing machines, America had come a long way. By enforcing the Embargo of 1807, business with England was stopped completely. This was a major downfall to our economy considering the fact that they were our main source of income and trade. This, as many say lead the United States to a forced industrialization. Our government also attempted helping by passing the Tariff of 1816 which increased the price of European or imported goods, forcing Americans to buy products from within the country. The Industrial Revolution also lead to the birth of the middle class in America. This social level consisted of mainly merchants, managers, clerks, accountants and retailers.
